Travel guides in Africa: ANGOLA

Portuguese colony until November 1975, Angola has suffered a civil war his last 40 years with violent clashes that have claimed the lives of 500,000 people. A cease-fire was approved in 2002 and 2003, the population and the government of Angola celebrated the first year of peace without fighting, the first in a generation. Although there is always conflict, most of the country began its reconstruction.

However, unless it is for important business or personal reasons, it is always advisable to travel to Angola. For those who still wish to go there, it is advisable to travel under the aegis of a sponsor, especially for those who wish to go beyond the capital Luanda. For those wishing to visit Luanda alone, it is important to note that the rate of street crime is very high: a large proportion of the civilian population is armed.
It is also recommended to visit the province of Uige (presence of the marburg virus that has a high rate of contagion), and north and south of the province of Lunda and inside Cabinda , in which the police is very present and very active separatist movements.

Angola has few tourist facilities but the country has no lack of outstanding natural sites. The capital, Luanda, has beautiful churches, historical and zoological museum. Many colonial fortresses are spread across the country as well as caves with magnificent cave paintings. Falls Duke of Braganza are as spectacular.
